Control what you eat
There are some things in our day-to-day life that we can choose whether or not we want to do. I can decide to sleep in, mow the grass, or put off errands until tomorrow. One thing that I don’t have much say so in is drinking and eating. I could stop but that wouldn’t be smart or fun. The choice I do have is what I put in my body, how much I put into it, and why I do.
There are not many people that don’t have some issues with food. This is why diets, nutrition books, and healthy living shows are an amazing success. Everyone wants to know how to control what they put in their body and although it is not easy, you have everything you need to make responsible food choices for life. Everyone has a different idea of what is best but there is no one size fits all label on food choices.
We are inundated with commercials that tell you to eat to feel better. We celebrate with food, reward and comfort ourselves with food, eat when we are bored, eat when we are tired, and sometimes we just eat because the food is in front of us. Just like you have a decision of what clothes to put on today you are the only one that can choose what you eat.
Denying foods you love will only prove to make you miserable. Making wise choices first will allow you to indulge in those sinful treats without the guilt and unhealthy consequences. Eat natural foods. Food substitutes may seem good at the moment with the brightly colored symbols telling you how there are zero calories or trans fats but beware. What many people don’t see is the extremely high level of sodium it takes to make these products palatable. There are other additives, colors, and preservatives to make it look and smell nice so you get hooked. Don’t fall for the tricks.
Get empowered by making your own smart meals. It feels amazing to make choices based on knowledge and not on urges. Go to your doctor or nutritionist and find out how many calories and nutrients you need per day to be healthy. There are also nutrition calculators online and smartphone apps that can help you track what you eat and when you have met your daily values.
Eat as though you lived in simpler times. Real sugar, real butter, fruits and veggies, natural salts; these are all things your body recognizes and can process. Learn to make your own pizza, ice cream, or french fries. That way you are in total control of what you put in your body. Your body was not meant to run on chemicals that were manufactured into food. Make a lifestyle change; your body will thank you.
