Gym and Happiness
Sweaty people, dirty equipment, grunting, clanking, and smells everywhere are enough to make anyone depressed. Looking around and seeing people who have better bodies than you is also not the best motivator. You may just feel like throwing in the towel, literally, and giving up. Well, snap out of it. Not working out will put you in a deeper depression in the end. If the gym is not for you then find some way to get moving during your day. Your body and mind will thank you.
I want you to consider how you feel when you are not active. When you sit around your mind also sits still. Even watching the most exciting action movie is not enough to change mood or make you feel more alive. When dealing with depression or general sadness the last thing you want to do is get up and move around, but it is the best thing you can do. Exercise releases chemicals in your body that will do a world of good for you. Exercise cannot only improve your physique but it can help with a long list of medical conditions.
Have you ever noticed that everything you do to try to get healthy, even the fad diets, and weight loss pills have to be paired with healthy diet and exercise? Usually this is because exercise can pretty much give you the results you need and the pill is just the reminder or catalyst. Whatever your goal is, whether it is weight loss, healthy living, mental health, or just to boost energy you will need to employ exercise to meet your desires. Often doctors are able to lower or end the use of medication for certain disorders simply because of a healthy exercise regimen.
An important part of feeling better is making choices that will nurture your mind and body. If you can’t run, then walk. If you don’t have the money for the gym work out in your own home. Things you do around the house like cleaning, gardening, washing the dog, or anything that gets your heart pumping is exercise. Don’t get caught up in the glamorized idea of exercise. If you do something that pushes your physical limits at least 4 times per week, you will feel the benefits.
Ice cream, chocolate, or chips may feel good going down but it will not be good in the long run. Exercise is an important part of having a healthy and happy life. The best case scenario is to have friends and family that you work out with on a regular basis. It is hard to start a new habit and easy to make excuses for yourself. Enjoy yourself and make it fun. You will be more motivated to get moving and you will be happy with the results. That is a guarantee.
